Silicon and Controller Selection — Matching the Part to Your Device
Two decisions determine how a flash part behaves inside your product: which silicon it uses, and which controller solution drives it. Neither is visible in a price list, and both are frequently left to the supplier. We treat them as engineering decisions. Silicon is sourced from SanDisk, Toshiba, Micron, SK Hynix, Intel and Samsung in TSOP, BGA, LGA, COB and eMMC formats. Controllers come from Alcor, ITE, Xinbang and Micov in QFN, 24-pin, 48-pin and COB packages. If you send us your host interface, capacity requirement and mechanical clearance, we will propose a matched configuration for your design review rather than quoting whatever is currently on the line.
What this covers
Silicon sourcing and grade
Named sources and a stated grade, so you know what you are paying for. Grade affects field failure and data retention far more than it affects benchmark speed.
Die package format
TSOP, BGA, LGA, COB or eMMC depending on capacity, cost target and mechanical constraints.
Controller solution
Alcor, ITE, Xinbang or Micov, chosen against your host requirements rather than defaulted.
Controller package
QFN, 24-pin, 48-pin or COB, matched to your board layout and clearance.
Specification and drawing
Provided for your design review before you commit a layout.
Supply planning
Discussion of end-of-life risk and availability across your product’s expected production life.
How the process runs
- Send the design requirement Host interface, capacity, required speed, mechanical clearance and expected production life.
- Proposed configuration We come back with a specific silicon and controller combination and the reasoning behind it.
- Specification and drawing Supplied for your engineering review.
- Sample for validation You validate enumeration and performance on your own host before committing to volume.
- Production Built to the agreed configuration, with the batch checked before packing.
What buyers push back on
Enumeration reliability
The single most common integration problem is a part that does not enumerate consistently on the host. It is a controller compatibility issue far more often than a capacity issue.
Knowing the grade
Fake and misrepresented flash is a documented problem across the market. Component buyers need the actual grade and source stated, not a marketing label.
End-of-life planning
NAND suppliers discontinue packages on their own schedule. A product with a multi-year life needs a supply plan, not just a current price.
Batch consistency
Mixed silicon inside one batch produces failures that are hard to diagnose and expensive to trace in the field.
Send us the product type, capacity, quantity, branding requirement and target date. We reply to business enquiries within 1 business day.
Start a project enquiryFrequently asked questions
Which controller should I use?
It depends on your host. Send your interface, capacity and required speed and we will propose a specific solution with the reasoning, rather than naming a default. See our guide on UDP, PCB and COB formats for how the physical format interacts with this.
Can you tell me the grade of the silicon?
Yes — we supply A+ grade flash from named sources. Ask for the sourcing breakdown on your specific project and we will confirm it against that quote.
What if the NAND we use reaches end of life?
It is a genuine industry risk — major suppliers have announced discontinuation of several NAND packages. Tell us your expected production life when you enquire and we will discuss how to plan for it.
Do you provide a datasheet?
We provide a specification and drawing covering dimensions, interface, capacity, controller solution and package format. Send your integration requirements and we will prepare it for your review.
